The Discipline Inventory: How Your Small Daily Habits Really Performed This Year
Most people dramatically overestimate the power of motivation and underestimate the power of small, boring daily habits. A Discipline Inventory forces you to look past the big goals and focus on the behavior patterns that defined your year.
Step 1: List your “non-negotiables”
Think about the habits you said were non-negotiable in 2025:
Physical training
Planning the next day
Blocking deep work
Reading or learning
Time with family
Now grade yourself honestly: A, B, C, D, or F.
Step 2: Evaluate your consistency, not perfection
Consistency tells the truth.
Which habits held steady even when you were tired?
Which ones evaporated the moment things got busy?
Which ones got better without you realizing?
Step 3: Identify your “keystone habit” for 2026
This is the single habit that, if executed daily, will elevate everything else.
For some people it’s sleep.
For others it’s a morning routine.
For you it may be daily planning or physical training.
Step 4: Eliminate the friction habits
These are tiny behaviors that sabotage you: late-night scrolling, skipping prep, avoiding planning. Remove them and your performance jumps immediately.
A Discipline Inventory gives you a scoreboard.
And once you see the scoreboard, you can’t pretend anymore. You have to get better.
